I mean Aymu Kasuga Akiko Hiramatsu as Yukari Tanizaki Aya Hisakawa as minamo Kurosawa ( aka Nyamo ) Kouji Ishii as Kimura Norio Wakamoto as Chiyochichi Sakura Nogawa as Kaorin Clips from the Series             Story Summary The story follows the daily lives of a bunch of high school japanese girls as they start from their first year to their final exams where they each go their separate paths. there is no main character or focus character as the story has very evenly spread the focus to the whole group and significantly developed each of the 6 school girls, each with in depth personalities and traits. Not a lot of animes are able to achieve this well rounded development of all its characters but Azumanga Diaoh was able to give us this amazing feature. As the story is revolved around females we would see a lot of feminish issues being looked at. eg. Them comparing their breast sizes in the toilets, They interest in the opposite gender, stealing your best buddy's school work to copy just before the lessons etc etc. The 26 Episode series takes us throughout the 3 years of their high school days and rounds us up with them finishing their finals and going their separate paths. Character profiles Mihama Chiyo A sweet and bubbly, rich genius student who goes to high school at the age of a mere 10! She can do everything you can ever think of except that she lags in sports. She is always level-headed and extremely good-tempered. So much so that it’s difficult to decipher if she’s really a child or an adult. She cares a lot for her friends and never fails to help them when in need. This can be especially seen when they were preparing and during the final year exams, where she allowed them to make use of her house for revision and makes a lot of cakes and delicacies for them and she evens resorts to Osaka’s silly good luck charm of breaking the wooden chopsticks into 2 perfect halves. She broke hundreds of them to send her good wishes to her friends as well as transferring her good luck in a chiyo-styled ritual. She’s also very understanding, by offering to help Sakaki to look after her cat in Chiyo’s house as Sakaki’s mom was allergic to animals. So many good traits.A worthy friend indeed! Takino Tomo A reckless yet caring friend. Her boundless energy always sent her doing things in an exaggerated yet comical way. She is always seen running about the school and rushing to be the first in everything that’s available, including bust size. That’s why her friends enjoyed asking her to go and buy the highly sought after snack-bread ,during break time as she is able to complete in within seconds! She’ll never admit defeat in anything except for her laziness in her studies whereby she never fails to not do her homework and persistently borrows from her friends especially Yomi to copy. She is so lazy that even though her exams were near, she could think of going on a trip and playing at Chiyo’s resort, and she doesn’t feel guilty at all. Her exaggerated expressions will send you to much laughter, she’s the type of character whereby you either love her a lot or hate her totally! So what’s your opinion? Mizuhara Koyomi She’s smart, rather mature personality. But whenever the topic deals with Tomo, her friend since primary school, she’ll become a devil! Tomo always irritates her to the core and she never fails to beat her, to cheat her into nearly being bitten by a cat and more in return! Whenever she does so, her spectacle will sparkle, so you know when she’s up to no good. Furthermore, she’s highly obsessed with losing weight, she tries all sorts of different methods, but she doesn’t have the determination. Her weight-loss plan always ends up in failure as she is only able to carry it out for a few days. She blames it on her mom’s excellent cooking skills for it. Though she is very hardworking in terms of her studies, it’s rather distressing to see her struggle through the final exams. Somehow or another, she just could not make it unlike the others, especially with lazy Tomo who passed at the first try. Maybe, she isn’t very lucky. Such can be seen also when they wanted to go to the amusement park. She fell sick on the morning on that very day! But all in all, she’s still a nice friend to have as she cares and shares with them. Sakaki A busty young lady whose cool and seemingly violent even gangster like looks turns people away at first. However, when one gets to know her, one will realize that she is actually a very gentle and kind girl who adores animals, in particular cats. There’s always 1 grey cat in the neighborhood who loves to bite her each time it sees her, the loving Sakaki always allowed the cat to bite her in her attempt to pat its head, no matter how hurt she was. Others deem such events to her having no fate with animals but actually it’s just that particular cat that’s causing all the trouble. She is very athletic and is able to outrun and outshine boys, as long as she puts her heart into it. She’s very helpful and gentle and caring towards her friends and her cat. She loves all the cute things and even has cute cat prints on her undergarments and towels. Her entire room is filled with stuff animals. From that, one can tell that she’s quite sweet and childish at heart. Kaorin She’s definitely a huge fan of Sakaki. In fact, she simply idolizes and adores Sakaki so much that she even fantasizes about her and tries ways and means to get close to Sakaki or to get Sakaki’s photo, she can even fall out of the house in order to get a good shot. Perhaps she’s like one of the die-hard fans of cool looking faces. Her love is also in astronomy. Such can be seen when she is greatly involved in the club’s activities such that she is unable to join her friends in their school holiday trips. She’s also responsible enough to be headed as the class president even though it was a deliberate measure carried out by her form teacher, Kimura. She always tries to think things in the good way, such as in the case of Kimura, a crazy and seemingly lustful male teacher. She tries to convince herself that there was a better side of him. Kagura A die-hard and active sports lover who trains very hard everyday. She’s very focused and know what she wants in life. One of her goals is to beat Sakaki at sports, but was never able to do so as Sakaki has a natural flair in it. However, with much effort, she may do so one day, or at least that’s how she thinks. She’s also not as good in studies and struggles together with Tomo. But she is not as lazy, just not intelligent enough. She’s very fun-loving and always makes the crowd happier. But she’s obsessed with thinking that Sakaki has no fate with animals. In all, she’s an athletic, energetic engine who’s ready to burst in energy! Osaka A muddle-headed and foolish girl who is always extremely slow-reacting to any events that is happening. Most of the time, she day-dreams and even sleeps very soundly during lesson time. She always fall prey to her friends’ tricks because she is gullible. Such was the case when Yomi tricked her to eating a very spicy snack that lead to Osaka’s continuous hiccupping catastrophe. Perhaps it’s precisely because of her slowness that made her adorable in the show. The way she thinks is very different from others. You can either say she’s very inquisitive or she’s simply asking silly questions, like what’s a panda-a white bear with black spots or a black bear with white spots-even though she’s in high school. Like Chiyo, she’s also very bad at sports and many funny scenes depicts her on her sports misadventures One thing for sure, is her sincerity towards her friends. She treats them with genuine concern and love. Yukari Tanizaki An interesting teacher who is always late for classes. She is always on the move to do the weirdest and most unforgivable things a teacher should not do. Hot-tempered and impatient, she gets into trouble quite easily but her flair in English and out of the world teaching styles keeps her in her teaching position. Exaggerated actions and expressions are seen very commonly in her. She even forces her students to buy her a birthday gift when she sees Nyamo has one, quite petty and demanding in that aspect. In terms of driving, Chiyo will turn white with shivers. She’s reckless and daring and doesn’t follow the traffic rules. But at the end of it, she’s still very happy over it and feels nothing. What a teacher…… Minamo Kurosawa ( aka Nyamo ) A kind-hearted and zealous PE teacher who is very well liked by her students. She puts her heart and soul into teaching and is always there to care for her students whenever they needed it. She goes along with the group for their holiday trips and is a safe and cautious driver unlike Yukari. At the trip, she takes good care of them. However, her mom keeps forcing her to go for blind dates and insists that she has to get married soon. But she loves her career a lot and doesn’t think that she’s that old to deal with such things. In all, a sweet and lovable teacher. ----- Character Summary by Carie Comments Now you got be asking, why the hack is a guy doing a detailed review for an anime that protrays nothing but females and what they do in their life at school. ( like as if I had not had enough of it ) Well, for starters I would never willing purchase such an anime off the shelf even if it killed me, but well, someone did and dragged me to watch it with her and since she paid for it, why not give it a try :). To my up most surprise, I LOVED IT!! The very first epsiode I saw it, I was hooked and spent the next 13 hours locked to my computer screen just watch it and forgetting about everything else! I even dedicated my favourite character for that anime ( something i don't really do unless I really liked it. ) When watching the series, it brings back the sweet old memories when i was still a high school boy :) the feeling can't be defined. Recommendations Why are you sitting there?? Go get it!! Watch it!! You will love it!! |
