However, years later, from their base on mars, they launched their first assult on the aliens with massive assult crusiers which ended in failure because the bulky ships were not fast enough to repeal the swift fighters that the aliens ( which was known as the Inbit ) have produced. Years later, the 2nd Assualt force was formed and this time with their new invention, the Legioss fighter planes. Like those in Robotech ( Macross ) they are able to transform from planes to semi-plane mode and also to Robo mode. However, that assualt ended in failure as well and one of our main characters, Stig was left stranded on earth, a place where he has never been to since his birth. Having lost his love and soon to be wife in the attack, and also seeing the crusier she was in being ripped into bits by the Inbit army, he was, sad, angry and completely lost on what to do. After sorting out his feelings, he was determined to find any survivors from the 2nd mission and sets off in search for them. This is where he finds his other companions, and the story continues Comments This was supposed to be a stand-alone type series as it did not qualify for the RoboTech Universe in its first airing in japan in the early 1980s. However yeasr after it was incoporated into the family using the Robotech name. As most of you would have known, the Japanese name is Macross and the USA version of the name was Bobotech. Both are the same. As this was the first robotechish anime I have seen, even before the original Macross series itself, I was very attached to the mecha designs and was rather crazy over the toys and related materials. The story itself is well-balanced and almost every episode was able to capture my attention. However do remember its a 1980s film so don't be too picky about the graphics as compared to later productions like Gundam Seed. Also, maybe because it was set in the 1980s, the themes for anime were very adult in nature and thus, you will miss some of those kiddish elements that really spoil what real life is about. So no this is not an anime for your 8 year old kid as he would not understand a single bit if the story. I recommend it for teenagers and above. Recommendations If you like Robotech or lve transforming Mecha and large battle scenes between man and alien, this is for you :) |
